"If everyone lit just one little candle, what a bright world this would be!

In a community where three in five children live in poverty and three of five families are not earning a livable wage, ARAS came just in time. On one day, more than 2000 struggling parents and their families were uplifted by the services of 150 ARAS Volunteers and tons of groceries, clothes, books and toys. It was all made possible by the generosity of those who support the work of The ARAS Foundation.

The guests were standing in a long line in freezing weather outside long before we were able to open the doors. They came in; haunted faces of parents and haggard-looking children. ARAS Volunteers immediately served them beverages and home made delicacies and guided them gently to where they could begin selecting complete wardrobes of beautiful clothing for their families. From there they picked out groceries and then took their children to the special, treasure room where over a thousand high quality toys were displayed and where each child could chose a toy of his or her dreams. As youngsters then went outside, and for the first time in many of their lives, actually petted and rode ponies, adults received chiropractic adjustments and massages. Haircuts were offered for the entire family, as were books and movies, all they wanted.

It was heartening to watch stress gradually dissolve from faces as guests relaxed and even laughed together. At least for this community and this holiday season, the wolf at the door was chased away and the awfulness of poverty was partially eased. However, as our financial crisis deepens across the land, ARAS must be now ready to do more and we will surely need your help.

Do you know of a community that needs a Harvest Festival? ARAS can work with you in setting up a program in the area of your choice, be it for thousands of guests or a dozen; let us know your needs. As always, our financial requirements grow as national poverty increases. Insurance, promotion, storage, transportation and many other costs must be met before each event we produce. Donors of $500 or more will be recognized as Harvest Festival Sponsors and may choose to have their names and/or names of their businesses displayed on posters and in media coverage. Your contribution of any amount will be deeply appreciated. If you can help, please call us now at 425-868-8448 or email
