'Breakaway' didn't make Avril's debut release 'Let Go'. Not because it wasn't a beautiful song, it just didn't fit the record. It was supposed to be Samantha Moore's first release on Geffen Records. But, the success of Ashley Simpson's record at Geffen and internal strife at Geffen, Samantha's mgmt and Matthew Gerrard agreed to let Kelly Clarkson use the song because it was her feature song and title of her new record which was a departure from the whole American Idol scene.
