Our universities have been keeping pharmaceutical research information private for funding and ultimately the pharmaceutical companies' profits for years. This is common knowledge. Why when faced with the knowledge of divulging military secrets in the same fashion to a communist country would it be assumed to be paranoia? The problem isn't paranoia, the problem is apathy and denial.

No doubt you are right about pharma research. I would suggest, however, that paranoia isn't the issue; it's greed. Big universities, in the words of a brave, tenured professor, are global investment enterprises which occasionally dabble in education in order to maintain their tax status. Do a search on university endowment offshore hedge fund investing. Billions are moving offshore. It's eye-opening.
