This is a foundry setup i made over a few weekends. Most of the parts for it i sourced for free,i did need to buy cement ,sand, perlite and fire clay.Just having a go at making some cleats for a small pontoon. The two mounting holes will be countersunk and drilled, and the base machined flat.
Sorry about the noisey hair dryer, even louder in the vid.It gets turned off in part 2 for the pour.

  • Great vid! I'm building a sailboat, and I thought why not go all the way, making my own cleats as well. What did you use as your raw aluminum, soda cans? I'm wondering, if one can turn soda/beer cans into cleats, that is just way cool.

  • @Pudersepp I used cast aluminium gas stove top burners. Dont use beer cans(altho its a great way to get rid of them),use cast aluminium if possible, gearbox casings, alloy cylinder heads are good, but hard to break up without a hydraulic press,or a sledge hammer and protective gear.I try not to use extruded aluminium. I just mill the base of the cleat flat and drill in my 2 countersunk mounting screw holes. Thanks for watching and good luck with your boat :)

  • @djpaulk

Thanks for the insight! Why would you not recommend beer cans? They are some sort of alloy, I presume.

  • @Pudersepp Its just that cast aluminium, already has the fairly desirable metal qualities. You will need alot of beer cans, and you will be scraping alot of crap from your crucible,as you add alot of beer cans to your crucible, your also adding alot of impurities.. Dont get me wrong, beer cans will work, but the finished product will not be as good..Alot of effort to go to,to make,so why put shit metal in your crucible?

  • where is part 1 ?

  • @latinthrowdown If you check my channel,it should be there.

  • @TheCbrown146 Glad you enjoyed it. No i wont add music to my clip, because adding it,just creates another thing for people to bitch about !! Bottom left hand of the player window, right near the volume control there is a mute button,

    eat your heart out.. ;D

  • Could you put one clip on one track and the wav file on a separate track? Sorry I don't mean to be a smart punk. I did enjoy the show though.

  • @djpaulk it went great. now im writing a reply to your reply to my comment

  • @kingofvlog cool.. Let me know how that goes
