Intro and noodling over the chorus changes for the classic George Strait tune. Played in Open E tuning (low to high E B E G# b e). Backing track is Band in a Box.

Guitar is a Yamaha SA2200 (neck pickup with tone rolled off a bit), amp is a Peavey Vypyr 30 (Twin model with compression/delay/reverb).

And yes, that is my phone ringing at 0:17. Luckily its the stock iPhone ringtone in the key of A, so you almost don't notice it.

  • what chords are you using mayne?

  • @astroboirap It's the chords from the intro and verses of the tune. I'm sure you could google them :)

  • neil; i have been trying to find some one who is getting a steele guitar tone on a regular guitar, you have nailed it! I have been trying my tele - too thin... i'' try my les paul .. what tuning are you using 'a'?

  • @diamondsdkm Open E Tuning. I feel the tone could be a bit more nasal, it might be too round here on the neck pickup. I've been experimenting with using the bridge pickup and using a volume pedal to reduce the attack, but haven't had time to make a video. A metal slide might help too.

  • yeah! GREAT! HOW HIGH IS THE ACTION ON YOUR GUITAR?

  • @pumukliboti: Not terribly high, but a bit higher than normal. It's not uncomfortable to to fret or anything. I actually use this guitar for slide because I don't use it live much so It doesn't get set up often. Thanks for the kind words!
