The Scottish Guitar Quartet have truly evokes the breaking through of Spring here. This is certainly not a Jazz number and demonstrates their versatility, yet is still has the sound and approach of SGQ.

SGQ are made up of Malcolm MacFarlane, Kevin MacKenzie, Ged Brockie and Nigel Clark. Each member brings his own to the piece, and without that member, it just wouldn't be SGQ.

A quartet in jazz most commonly consists of piano, bass, drums and sax. I marvelled at the harmonious trio of John McLaughlin, Paco de Lucia & Al Di Meola decade ago, but here we have four guitarists playing in perfect harmony. SGQ explore every texture and timbre available to produce an intense experience for the listener. Whatever limitations a quartet of guitars may pose, SGQ just turn it into an advantage.

  • The start of this, with the clean neat/tone reminds me of Tubular Bells. Thats not to say it sounds like a rip off, for a video i just happened to stumble on... i'm very impressed, great stuff.

  • @dymondgeezer2003 Wow, I love Tubular Bells and never made that connection. I can sort of see what you mean by the clean tone.

  • @mfarkasmusic These are Frameworks Guitars. There are now numerous people making this type of guitar. Check out Sharon Isbin and she has a similar guitar made by "Wright" and she can take this anywhere and practice using headphones. The Frameworks guitar however is also MIDI enabled and means they could trigger other voices to be played in sync or instead of the guitar and can be used to compose with.
