The renovation of an old camper shell bought on craigslist for $100. The camper shell didn't quite fit the bed of the truck, and so some modifications were done so that it would. We built a carpeted bed-liner in addition to re-carpeting the terrible carpet on the interior of the camper shell. We replaced the old/broken/keyless locking mechanism with two side locks. We spray-painted the exterior black, from the faded purple that it was. Then we took it on a road trip to California.

  • I am in the same boat. I just bought a camper shell very cheap on craigslist. However, it is a tad beat up and I would like to put a fabric (marine carpet?) lining to limit condensation. What kind of adhesive did you use for the carpet lining?

P.S. your project came out looking great!

  • @jmk2912 we just used standard commercial carpet and super super glue.

  • Pretty cool video. How much did all the supplies cost?

  • @autodidactism Roughly $200 with the bed-liner supplies. Thanks for watching!

  • Nice work, creativity and elbow grease, many happy trails

  • Nice video thanks for sharing. Makes me feel better about my rebuild project on a used camper shell, but unlike you I am moving to California coast to coast driving.

  • Good going. You should be very proud. You have inspired me to try one on my pickup.

  • Awseome Job... nothing like camping in the back of a truck.

  • nice vid. What did you use to cover the foam on the bed (over plywood)?

  • @stickchewer cool to see a labor of love come to fruition! I just found "anti-fatigue foam padding" @ big lots, and lined the bed of my truck! I will test sleep in it with my dog soon...thanks for the inspiration!
