This is a video that demonstrates the technique of concurrent continuous renal replacement therapy and therapeutic plasma exchange (CCRRT+TPE). CCRRT+TPE may be useful in the treatment of children with fulminant hepatic failure, hemolytic uremic syndrome or patients with immune-mediated acute renal failure. The video was filmed by Kim Yaeger,BSN in the Center for Advanced Pediatric Education (CAPE) at Stanford University. The video was presented by Dr Peter Yorgin at the 2006 CRRT Conference in San Diego.
@FionaWest Question: Whose plasma is used for the exchange - patient's or donor's???? The diagram seemed to indicate an extension of the circulatory system?

Can someone please tell me if the blood is withdrawn into the machine (the machine acting as an extension of the circulatory system) and put right back in the patient, or is the blood taken out and put back in the machine, thereby leaving the body completely? Thanks. I hope that makes sense.

Interesting video. I suggest the RN remove her wrist watch next time prior to handwashing for what is an aseptic procedure as an example of good practice within the critical care arena.
