A raku potfest; snippets of a weekend spent glazing and raku firing previously fired biscuit pots and experimenting with glazes, applications and firing temperatures to get different effects. After the appropriate temperature was reached in the propane gas kiln the pots were immediately removed and put into oak sawdust and left there for about 10 minutes. Any sawdust catching fire was smothered to stop fire spreading and encourage smoke. Then the pots were cleaned up and polished using water and a sponge scourer. The effects were myriad and beautiful. All the while the radio commentary is running of England winning The Ashes.
You can only show so much in a 10 minute edit! And I wanted to concentrate on the explanation of what raku is and how it works - there is a longer version of this edit where more pots are shown. I would have liked to have shown more specific detail of what glaze produced which colour at what temperaure but I did not have enough time available either on the day for filming or in the days that followed for the edit. Thanks for your comments, they are, of course, totally valid.

Oh, sorry... Silly me. Now I understand why it is so little attention to the raku ceramics...Not even a single pot was shown.
