River is a young colt that lives on the same farm as we do. He's becoming a man and it is time for him to be gelded. What you are about to see is an actual veterinary procedure it is not for the faint of heart. It really is a common procedure and half an hour later River was walking around and eating hay.

Wow, this only took like 6 minutes and there is very little bleeding...considering what is being done... GREAT Vid. I always wondered how they did it. How do you geld a horse with and undescended testicle? We have a "gelding" with one and he still looks and acts like he's never had the procedure.

@PurpleTubas It really is a very easy and quick procedure. My little alpaca was gelded recently and we had to wait till he was a year old before his testicle descended. I think that it can be done when it hasn't dropped on it's own -probably a more difficult surgery as opposed to pull and snip..Your vet will know what to do. Unless you are planning on breeding - gelding is def.the healthier, happier alternative - and with stallions no chance of getting those unpredictable testosterone surges...

@mizjorgieo07 LOL....My miniature horses' name is Puppy and when I had him gelded him at the age of 7 I put his balls in the freezer. That way no-one could tease him and say he had no balls - he could just say well, I do but they're in the freezer...

Actually someone told me that they would be a strong totem to a first nations elder - but I never found one who wanted them....

@TheRavensArk most stallions are difficult or sometimes even dangerous to work with. it cuts down on the hormones they produce and makes them safer and easier to train and ride. basically its just like getting a dog neutered, before you do theyre edgy and sometimes mean, afterward they tend to be more laid back. thats how it usually is, tho ive been around some stallions that were much better behaved that some geldings.
