@3star2nr It helps, but sometimes you have to not know what your doing to have fun. Some of the famous bass guitarists didnt know what they were doing.

@renzoasity Videos like this really help though because it helps you learn your guitar so you can find the notes in your mind easier and you arent stabbing in the dark. Nothing sucks more than jamming with your friends and they are playing a chord and you can hear the bass note you want but can't find it on the guitar.

Hes playing on the EADG like a normal 4 string. Also he has a good sound coming through so why do you care about the knobs?
Dull walking bass? its a beginner lesson. What do you want to do learn how to play bass by watching flea solo?

The total ignorance of some posters on You Tube always amazes me. The complexities of playing good jazz walking bass lines belies the seeming simplicity (at least to lesser and non players). I've played bass for 36 years, all styles and Genre of music and I found good (not simple) walking bass the most difficult to master since it requires a thorough knowledge of scales, arpeggios and how to apply them throughout the whole neck and the ability to improvise against any chord progression.
