  • what about the c-5 galaxy?

  • Another situation, almost ideally:

    -0 speed;

    -0 degrees slope/ramp;

    -0 wind speed;

    ...

    -but is on a cliff.

    :)

    The airplane starts his engine, starts to gain speed, rolls, and is still on the ground, but is getting closer to the edge of the cliff, drops over the clif...and is "flying". Is this the first unassisted take off with his own power? NO!

    Is understandable that Weisskopf is almost unknown to general public in Romania, but in US also? For crying outloud...

  • The problem is the take off, not the "Wright bros. plane flew on it's own power, bud"!

    If by absurd, the Wright Bros. plane was connected with a rope by a hot air ballon, and at, let's say 500 feet high, the engine is started and the rope is cut off and the plane is "flying", the question is: how did it get there, in the air? With his own power? NO! Is the ballon! So, is the same situation with the catapult. Start from 0 speed into the air with your own engine without any other EXTERNAL help!

  • @keithskye YES! What a hell a hell do you think i'm saying, genious?

    :)

    But if Weisskopf is the first...AMERICAN...why is still ignored by...AMERICANS? Why are the Wright Bros. still considered the first? Because they are "more americans" than the german? The first and WWII are over, why is still ignored? No matter how you cut it, the Wright Bros. didn't used the own aircraft's power on board, but a counterweight catapult/slingshot! Weisskopf on the first try...0.5 mile distance, 50 feet high!

  • @RomaniaTricolor

    You obviously don't know much about AMERICA! The majority of the country was made up of immigrants. We are a country of immigrants, so Weisskopf was as American as anyone else living and working here. So whether he or the Wright brothers was first, it was still an AMERICAN that did it first!!!

  • You americans are just upset that a german and not a "home grown" american did it! All those mentioned above deserve our respect, but so far, Weisskopf was THE FIRST, Vuia was the second.

  • @Helge129 He is not an idiot, but he is partially correct, Traian Vuia took of with the aircraft's own power of the engine, the wright Brothers didn't! But the real truth is that the first one to TAKE OFF unassisted, with engine's power only, wasn't the romanian Traian Vuia or the Wright bros., it was a german immigrant named Gustave Weisskopf which later changed the name into Whitehead after comming in US. He did it in 1901! :) Look it up!
