This little wind turbine was the result of too many windy days in a row, forcing me to make something
or go nuts. The blades have a good airfoil (in that they were made from 4" PVC). The body is 4" PVC
with a 1" dia alum. tube boom. The tail is 1/2 a wing from a model airplane that had seen better days.
The generator is an 18 volt scooter motor. The hub is two lams' of 5/8" CDX plywood. The fairing from
body to boom is the top of a 2 liter soda bottle.

  • hi i would just like to no how you made the wind turbine spin on its aksis ??

  • @mrkenickie1 I Glued a 2" PVC threaded adapter into the PVC reducer & ground out the threads to clear the galvanized fence pipe I was using for a tower. There was very little friction to hamper rotation on the pipe/pivot. The power lines run down the inside of the pipe.

  • Any info on the output? Been wondering if those scooter motors were worth the effort.

  • @Guru1ofatl No- as a matter of fact it has just been sitting in my garage since the day that video was made, it was a spur of the moment project to satisfy the cravings of a recessive hacker gene passed down through the paternal side of the family... Sorry.

  • Build? OK, noticed an 18VDC motor laying around would fit in 4"PVC so I cut 14" for main body & GOOPed motor in place. Drilled hole for the wires to pass through body. Traced OD radius of body on 4"to2" PVC reducers big end & cut out saddle mount for body piece. Glued 2" PVC threaded adapter into PVC reducer & ground out threads to clear galv fence pipe tower dia. Cut 2 plywd ring inserts for alum. boom tube mount, glued into body. Made plywd hub, drilled for shaft, mounted PVC blades.
