Cadets from the Air Force Junior ROTC program at Sandy Creek High got up hours early on May 14 to send off Fayette's first group World War II veterans to see their memorial in Washington, D.C.
The cadets arrived at school at 5:30 a.m. to make the trip to the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church where Honor Flight Fayette was gathering the veterans for the inaugural flight. At 6:15 a.m. the color guard and saber salute team honored the veterans as they boarded buses headed for Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
