December 23rd 2008 Snowbound Portland

Wintry weather that had begun more than a week ago built to a crescendo over the weekend with high winds and heavy snow. Much of the snow that hammered Portland and northwest Oregon last weekend is expected to hang around until next weekend, when a warming trend is expected to begin melting the snow pack. That will mean a rare white Christmas in much of the region. In downtown Portland, for example, records show that snow fell on Christmas Day just 13 times since 1884 - only four times accumulating to more than a trace. In only five years was snow on the ground as Christmas morning began - never with more than an inch in depth. This storm has proven to be the most severe the region has seen since 1968.

Man... we portlanders are such wimps! It's not even that much snow! It's just because it's Portland! My friend lives in Minnesota and they got like 47 inches... this is nothing!

Would the residents of Honolulu be even bigger wimps? The argument, about who gets more snow and how they handle it, has gotten really old, really quick.

Nice video! Some may have misunderstood the objective and/or significance of the video.....But I enjoyed it! This is a rare occurrence for Portland, and I'm grateful that I got to view it safely from sunny California! I hope Portland citizens were dreaming of a white Christmas.
