I find I hardly breathe when this runs, for fear of disturbing the moment. It's an inspired and exquisitely played ad lib and this scene never fails to move me close to tears. It's a metaphore for the human condition really, isn't it and impossible not to empathise with deeply. A powerful and memorable dramatic moment, Shakespearean in its poetry and intensity. This has always been one of my all-time favourite films and this, for me, is its finest moment.

@GregMonster17 - All I know is that this film is the science fiction equivalent of films like " The Godfather ", " Gone With the Wind ", etc.
A perfect drama that should NEVER be re - made ( unless the right people were in charge of production ).

@knoxvilleguy2 Scott always wins over Cameron his work is so much more beautiful and intelligent, not to say that cameron hasn't made some pretty amazing films

@SamSlater - It would be SO EASY to write off Roy Batty as a " bad guy ", " villain ", etc. He's just a person who wants the lifespan that was denied him. In a way I don't blame him for attacking his creator, a man who viewed Roy & his kind were " disposable ", with the exception of Rachel.
Blade Runner is a true drama, much more than ones like Avatar.

I've seen things you ponies wouldn't believe.
Attack pegasus on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched rainbows glitter in the dark near the Canterlot gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Time to be banished for 1000 years.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I've watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in the rain. [time to die]

@tristanrinehart No. If you watch the film all replicants were made so that they had a lifespan. He was programmed to die and that is why he went to meet his maker (literally)....and killed him. It's one of the main themes of the film.
Just to add: people mostly notice just the script. Please, please check out Rutger's emotional expressions too. He knows he's about to die. A little bit of anger, along with a hint of a crazed look. Fear and disbelief about his predicament and then lots of sadness that there are many things he'll never be able to share with another soul....and finally resignation and acceptance. That little grin at how ironic he has to let Ford live because that knowledge would be lost forever. Again, brilliant.
