This is a collaboration of pictures I took throughout the project of building a model of Optimus Prime. I'm not really big into models but I found a model kit at a local hobby store of this Peterbilt truck which was similar to Optimus and just couldn't resist... and so after couple of months of working (between college and my job) this is the final product. I gave this one, the original, to my sister for Christmas 2008 because shes a huge TF fan. But now (as of June 2009) I have begun working on my next big project... and guess what??? NA NA HA HA IM NOT TELLIN!!! Thats right. Im trying to keep it kinda secret until its done. You'll just have to subscribe to see what my next project is gonna be when I finish it hopefully by mid - late September 2009, I can only promise that it'll be just as good, if not better than this one.

To make this model I bought two of the Peterbilt kits, one for the truck and the other for spare parts and extra material. I cut the first one in half right through the sleeper cab portion and extended the cab and chassis 0.5 inches. With alot of sanding, gluing and filler putty I made the joints between the extension smooth and painted over them. The rear fenders were made completely from scratch using spare plastic scavenged from the other model kit. I made a wood block of the exact shape for the fenders as a template. I applied heat to the plastic using the bulb out of a lava lamp (those bulbs are made to have an intensely warm radiance which wont heat the plastic enough to severly burn it) and bent the plastic into shape. The piece behind the cab where the chains are hanging is made simply by flat plastic cut and glued into place, as well as the little chrome boxes just in front of the rear fenders. I also added a flare to the back edge of the front fenders using the same "cut, shape and glue" technique. Alot more sanding and finner putty later the whole model was ready for paint. The base coat is pretty straight forward... for the flames, I printed out decals with this "do it yourself blank decal printer paper" stuff I got at the local hobby store and used the decals as templates. The final color of the flames was hand painted with a fine brush.

  • nice kenworth and paint job i have an entire 26 and a half inch diecast of tht same model kenworth weird did you get these parts...exelnt grill nd bumper and stripes and fender and chasis u just need a light kit i am gonna put light kit in my mine

  • Actually its a Peterbilt, It came with the basic truck as a do-it-yourself assembly model kit. I got two of the same model and used one for spare material and parts to modify the other into the truck like Optimus Prime. The whole truck, cab and chassis, is extended by 1/2 inch, the front fenders have an added flare and the rear fenders and are built completely from scratch. the bumper, hood and several other parts have been modified as well.

  • well how much did tht kit cost cause all i need is grile bumper exhaust and the little thing tht hangs over the cab top and the little peice at 4:32 and the thing at 2:00 and the tires come wit it.. bc the tires i have arent rubber.. im sure all this will be a nice mod and will fight mine the only thing dif fis i have a trailor as well so thts what makes it 26 inch long

  • the kit was bout $20. its a plastic model kit that i got at a hobby store, the same box in the picture at 0:06. the "visor" type thing that hangs over the windshield, the chrome piece, I made it from scratch. just four flat pieces of plastic, cut the angles and put some chrome tape on top for the finish.
