Super Mario Sunshine: Yoshi Island Minigame

While Miyamoto was still pondering about Galaxy's spherical world concept, Super Mario Sunshine was made. Sunshine changed a lot of things with the series: Fludd, linearity, level design, etc. Most of the game's emphasis is put on minigames which force Mario to navigate a bunch of various platforms without the help of Fludd.

This minigame starts you out with Fludd however, and requires 8 red coins to be collected along a river of deadly sewage that somehow gets clean by running through a few metal bars. The river has to be navigated on top of a decaying lilly pad. While the level is so difficult a pipe that leads back to the hub world was included, what's even more ridiculous is the path to get there!

Yoshi is rarely used in the game, but he has to clear an obstacle to proceed in the level. After some time of not eating fruit, Yoshi will die. And for some reason he can't touch water. He could touch water in Super Mario World, a game with as much water as a dessert, but now that he's in a game based around a tropical island vacation, he dies touching it. How convenient :| The level is located in a pipe, which in turn is located on an island completelly surrounded by water. How wonderful! The only way to reach it is to ride on boats that have one speed: crawl.

This was the most ANNOYING shine of the game! Because getting there was a HUGE pain, then, the level itself was SO FREAKING HARD! I thought the pipe lead to the beginning, but it lead to Delfino Plaza!

@marioluigiwario1 Actually you don't have to. If you jump out of the drainage pipe right in front of the Bianco Hills level entrance on Yoshi's back he can make it to the platform in the middle of the water, then you just have to wait on the second boat.
