Try to point the lens barrel straight to the sky at the moment of retracting, gravity doesn´t lever the barrel against the body of the camera and helps retracting. Works on Powershot S21S.

weird error, its good that canon fixed it. The only problem i got is that the batteries someties seem to be empty while they are not. putting them back in helps or changing them to another place.

The problem usually happens because dirt or sand get into the lens mechanism,must be disassembled and cleaned.
