  • I am currently staying sober with the help of naltrexone, yoga, volunteer work and video blogging. 12 step programs haven't helped me at all, so I am designing my own recovery plan. I'm trying to connect with others by sharing my sobriety video blog. It's here on YouTube if anyone wants to check it out. I tried SMART recovery when I was in San Diego and I like it a lot better than AA, but I moved to PA and they don't have meetings in my area.

  • be sure to check out right programs trailors @youtube! real individuals getting help today!!

  • @MaicoMoon If thats what helps you or a drunk you know, then good for you or them. Whatever gets someones life back together, though in my opinion it depends on the person.

  • Although I went the AA route for much of my 14 years sober, it's no longer about whether or not I'm an alcoholic and have a disease. It's about maintaining the happiness I found through the personal and spiritual growth I experienced outside the rooms of AA. Our thoughts are where we can change as a person and be free from many of the fears and insecurities we have. I very seldom go to meetings anymore, but give AA and The Twelve Steps credit for helping me change my old way of thinking.

  • AA is amazing and it does not have to be religious... you can find sponsors that use mantras and guided meditation...If you are depressed / anxious / suicidal when NOT drinking THIS PROGRAM AA saved my life...

  • dear ordinaryman, God says it's never to late...i'm not going to preach to you, or give you bible verses. my dad died of sorosios of the liver. it must b a horrable way to go. sorry about all the things wrong with you, i'll pray 4 you. please comment, i have so much to say to you.

  • the true fact is though is that most "Alcoholics" die of drinking themselves to death and that is the frightening facts that the doctors don't tell you!!! whichever method of recovery works for you then get the help before it is too late...

  • also AA believes that the "Alcoholic" only has to stop drinking for one day at a time and not look at the rest of your life,it is a 24 hour program ie,you can manage not to drink for one day...and when the next day comes look at not picking up a drink for that one day...and AA is a "Fellowship" not "Foundation"

  • as far as Iam aware AA sees alcoholism as an illness of mental, physical and spiritual parts of a person and that an "Alcoholic" is someone who cannot stop drinking once they have started...maybe only a certain type of person is an "Alcoholic" and can be confused with just binge drinking or that of a heavy drinker
