This crap goes on in all walks of life in all religions,anyone who says it does not is a liar.

i think what is unusual about this film is it is dealing with a sect of Judaism that has more laws an then sub laws. Interestedly enough the word rabbi was not used in the original text of the Torah or in any of their writings till the fall of Jerusalem..Interesting film !

Sonia was trapped by her own body, and her bastard of a brother-in-law took advantage of it. But you see her blossom and become almost a different person- she is much calmer, happier, and she seems to really enjoy her work with jewlery.

@MsSMSgirl Not negating that. She wanted to be touched, and he saw it. For that time he really owned her (i.e. took advantage), but until she regained her senses she wanted it.

The seductiveness of touch to a thirsty soul. The brand of a pimp on someone he owns. A woman in need to know what she knows. She nearly went crazy from Desperate Housewife Syndrome, made out with her sister-in-law for pete's sake! Who wouldn't give a man a piece when he fulfills all these needs? Pity he's like his brother and forgets the foreplay.

Also, at this point in the film, she's still under the impression that she has to take this kind of abuse. She experiences a lot of personal growth as the film goes on, but here, she's either been conditioned to think that it's acceptable for there to be a price for her own happiness (being active in the world as opposed to being stuck at home, which is what she wants) in the form of assault/abuse, or she simply doesn't believe that she has other options and that she can say no.

@bigpinkears You're victim-blaming. He came into her home and betrayed her trust (he's her husband's brother, she believes that she can trust him up until this point). He took advantage of her. She was clearly in shock. You also have to think about the authority that he has over her and how he abuses it; he has standing in this community and it's her word against his. On her part, it's not a question of right or wrong when she was so obviously betrayed and taken by surprise.
