first attempt at starting an LS1 from a 99 formula firebird transplanted into a 1986 Camaro. Converted to carb with an Edelbrock 650 carb and an Edelbrock ls1 carb intake manifold with ls1 timing module. wiring still needs some fine touches to make it pretty, but thats minor.

  • I originally went with the #6 chip on my MSD unit, and although it ran ok, when i went with my own tune it ran so much better i threw the timing curve ships in the trash, not to mention the nitrous retard and 2 stage rev limiter built in.

  • @ZONES89RS I think we're running the #4 plug now. I've found a conversion kit for this box that allows you to run your own tune thru the computer. which we will probably mess with later.

  • Regret not getting the MSD 6010 controller instead? Those timing curves that come with the one you have are crap.

  • @ZONES89RS Not at all. considering at the time the intake and timing box was purchased, that was the only thing available. and we were using the "stock" timing plug during first fire up. we've since swapped for a hotter plug and its running fantastic.

  • there is a huge improvement on horsepower with the carb conversion it brings it to 4Xx thing they did it on horsepower tv

in addition to the extra power, you dont have to spend the extra money for wiring/harness/fuel injectors/tuning. but if you dont know how to tune a carb, spend the extra money.
