Notes by pianist Charles Rosen:
Liszt's tradition [of waltz transcriptions] was carried on by his pupil Carl Tausig, who is said to have been an extraordinarily reserved and unmannered pianist with a spectacular technique. In comparison with the later Strauss transcriptions, "Man lebt nur einmal" ("You Only Live Once") is dry, but this quality is to be relished - it is witty and not at all sentimental.
Love Rosen

A comparison with Rachmaninov's recording of this marvellous transcription is unavoidably unfair to any pianist, but I would urge listeners to seek out Rachmaninov's interpretation for its unparalleled brio, panache and charm.

Very good performance. I like Rachmaninoff's recording very much also...

great job with the score, wonderful playing by Rosen on an extremely fine transcription. I am not even interested in the original piece after this!!!
