http://www.collectacy.com/ 1st in a series of Basic How-to videos, this video shows you how to easily add doll eyelashes to your BJD.
At the suggestion of face-up artist Michelle Hardy (http://www.thedollpage.com/marketplace/store.php?login=mhardy), the tool used to glue down the lashes was made of metal (a cuticle tool). A toothpick can also be used, but using a tool made of smooth metal made the lash less likely to stick to the tool. It's easy to wipe clean too.
(Special thanks to Denver Dolls for sending out my eyelash order so fast! http://www.denverdoll.com/index.php)

  • Many places sell eyelashes, but they are usually limited in variety. I think one of the best places to find lashes is Dollmore. They have a lot of colors, lengths and styles.

  • Can i ask how you apply eyelashes to a bjd with closed eyes?? thanks :)

  • I actually haven't done a closed eye doll as I don't have any. I would think you would use the same materials, but you would have to be careful not to use too much glue. You would just attach it to the end of the upper lid.

  • Great, this process looks pretty straightforward. Thank you!

Can the eyelashes be reused after removing?

  • It can be hard to remove them intact, but if you can avoid tearing the eyelashes and you can remove any excess glue, I would think you could. I admit, I haven't tried to re-use any yet myself, though.

  • And my friend's keep telling me this is the /wrong/ way to do it, despite this technique being used by doll companies too.

  • I don't know what method your friends use, but this method is easily reversible and doesn't damage the head. If you let it dry properly before adding the eyes, the lashes should stay on and look great.

  • What size eyelashes do you use?

And what would you recommend for a 1/4 doll?

  • Thank you for the wonderful video! Though, i have a quick and random question: Would you possibly know/have any recommendations of where to get white eyelashes for an SD Doll? My doll's gonna have a light blue hair, and darker eyelashes would just make him look really weird. but i can't find any white 8C

  • I used Aleene's Tacky glue. I think any glue that dries clear and can be removed with water can be used. If you have regular white glue (like Elmers) let it sit out and thicken before using. The glue should be pretty tacky so it attaches better and dries faster.

  • What brand of glue would you recommend using?

I just got my first doll today and her lashes came off within minutes of me opening her.

So, of course, I'm sort of in a panic.

  • First, thank you for the tutorial :) Do you know if it is possible to use the putty (the one for the eye balls) for the eye lashes as well?

  • Exellent tutorial

    thanx for sharing! =3
