  • I'll be in Austin for a wedding on October 16. I've heard great things about Austin but I never realized it's a big city. I've visited Houston and Dallas so I know a lot of people live in TX - just thought Austin was a quaint little town. I'm staying by the airport. I'll be pretty tired by the time I reach Austin so I'm wondering - since I'm staying down by the airport should I take the toll road that is east of Austin to avoid I-35. I sure appreciate your help as I will be driving alone.

  • @hoeflep Well, I'd say it all depends on where you're going. If your destination is actually one of the suburbs north of Austin (Pflugerville, Round Rock, Georgetown, etc.), the toll road (130) could be good option. But if you're going anywhere in Austin itself, it would probably make more sense to go straight there.

By the way, Austin in fact has grown rapidly over the past several decades; it used to be a small town but is now a decent-sized city. Not as big as Dallas or Houston, though.

  • Thanks for this one. I'm driving to Austin from KY next week - I had no idea it was such a large city. Does I-35 get backed up certain times of the day?

  • @hoeflep I laughed when I read your question, but since you're not from around here, I'm guessing that was actually a sincere inquiry. YES, I-35 absolutely gets backed up. All the major highways are pretty reliably congested during the morning and evening rush hours and less reliably in the evenings and on weekends. If you're coming for the ACL Festival, leave yourself plenty of time to get to Zilker each day. Austin is a wonderful city; enjoy your time there! :)

  • Nice view. 5/5

  • @savtasaba thanks!

  • Now you need to get a loft up in the 360 buildlng for the best view :)

  • @InfiniteEndurance The Colorado River is a river that runs only in Texas. Has nothing to do with the state. This Lake is from the Colorado River though.

  • I'll give you a hint:

    Its not.
