My Dad took us to this Soviet Technology Exhibition at Earls Court in 1961. From memory the broadcast took place from a big tent like affair and we waited outside and the old man who worked for the BBC blagged his way in. We hung around wondering where he was and what he was doing. I still have a badge from that day somewhere- Gagarin made a huge impact in Britain- he was the most famous man in the world.

Despite the language barrier and (probably) some jet lag, YG seems clever and and in good humor.

After all, he was the first human to realize how small the world is, in a time when all people down here was talking of nuclear war.

I doubt I would have the guts to be thrown into space, depending on rocket technology of the '60s.
