when are we going to find ourselves as filmmakers in a situation where we will need to take a picture of a camera with a lens hood on it? and If we ever did, we could easily find a substitute to elevate it

Aside from using a shockmount is there anyway to prevent handing noise from the pistol grip, like a thin layer of foam between the H1 and the grip?

@usedtobeawkward Foam won't cut it. DSLR Film Noob sells a great one for $10 or you can make one similar to my mic shockmount. Just remember to allow access to the record button!

@Isle0fRed It doesn't really matter if you go by the audio level meters. It's generally accepted to shoot for -12db, which gives you a little overhead protection from clipping. I max out the record level at 100 when using my cheap Radio Shack lav mic.
