@ysrmik The London Underground is a light rail system, whereas the Merseyrail system is part of the national network (what used to be called British Rail).
@max444ist There's a difference between an Underground light rail system such as the London Underground, and a National Rail line such as this which just happens to run underground (with a small U).
Too true boo/boo Ive lived in Liverpool for over 60 years and had never seen a train, bound for Birkenhead, tearing along Church Street, Hmm maybe its as you say running undergrond
Just for the record, the only reason I'm responding to this is because I fail to see the necessity for rudeness in JAMamations comment. As a woman I can tell you size really ISN'T important as long as the driver knows what he's doing!
Perhaps its the scouse in me and the fact that I'm not big on train techie stuff but if it goes 'underground' its an underground train regardless of how long or short the stretch is, right? Furthermore, since when was the mersey underground a 'temporary' stretch? Its been that way as long as I've travelled it and I'm approaching 50.
@JAMamation Newcastle? The Metro? That's NOT an underground purely a short temporary stretch of line the just happens to go underground, the metro is about 3 miles of underground or Waterloo to Baker St/5 stops. Liverpool has 4.5 miles of underground railway, centreline electrified. Glasgow is 6.6 miles long and 8 stations north of the Clyde and 7 south of it. It's like comparing U boats to nuclear subs, they do go underground but it's a drop in the ocean in comparison.
Basically, the only cites in the UK that have a real underground are London and Glasgow
