Exodus says you can beat your slave, just as long as they don't die shortly after. Is that how we should treat family ? Richard Carrier makes the point that you can have sex slaves. There is no specific verse which denies this.

No but the Bible says to treat your slaves as family, as many of the Hebrews did. Jesus came to bring us into relationship with our Father so that through the changed hearts of that relationship, cultures would be changed from the inside out, not by external laws and regulations.(Now challenge me on the Law itself.) Jesus NEVER attacked the Roman Empire but His love caused it to collapse from a change of heart, not war.
