The day after the Columbine massacre in 1999 I came into work after only a couple hours of sleep. The News Director asked me to put together a piece which utilized footage and work done by our 20+ field crews the day before, which I was one of. A daunting task. This pressure was on and the news piece aired 8 hours later on the 4 pm newscast. It features sounds and images recorded from every KUSA-TV camera crew in the field that day, and is an overview of the preceding days tragic events. I produced and edited this Emmy award winning piece for the 4 pm news that day. It also ran the following day on NBC's TODAY Show with a music track the show added, not heard on this piece. This was produced and edited using only the natural sounds, interviews and images recorded on April 20th in Littleton Colorado by the KUSA-TV photojournalist staff.
