Thunderf00t and Swine Flu

LOVE Thunderf00t's videos and I think he's a major asset to science and rationality on YouTube.... This is a friendly exchange.

One last time: I am NOT saying we should all go out and have Swine Flu parties. However, we need to ask ourselves if we should be spending BILLIONS or, perhaps over time, TRILLIONS of dollars (that we don't have right now) to take care of something that seems to be just as, or even less, lethal than seasonal flu.

You have a very good point, and I agree, it's little more deadly to a healthy person than regular influenza. However, you must agree that the enormous chunk of cash we've got in our military's kitty is obscene, and we could most definitely take at least some of that behemoth chunk, and bequeath it to the CDC, or really anything else.

I completely agree.

The exorbitant amount of money we have sitting in the defense budget is far in excess of what is necessary or what should be appropriately distributed to it.

We'd be far better off were we to shuffle that money around into agencies that need it more.

I think you misunderstood the rates Thunderf00t was referring to. The 25% vs. 100% difference he used was referring to the natural immunity that many people have to any given strain of seasonal flu versus the fact that nobody has natural immunity to swine flu.

Actually, he referred to natural immunity in that context, yes. However, that was the entire system under which he constructed the number system in regards to how many people get sick.

So, he assumed that since we have no natural immunity 100% of people will get sick. That's problematic.

A really late response, but I remember Thunderf00t's swine flu video was made. I scrolled through the comments to see many comments that had testimonials of people having the swing flu and getting better within days (without a doctor's help) were being down thumbed.

When I made a comment pointing this out, one of Thunderf00t's fanboys threw a fit. I had some fun with that.

My girlfriend and our daughter didn't even get the flu and they live in the same house where I was coughing all over the place . The idea that "healthy" people can be killed by this virus is due to our very low standard for calling someone "healthy" . I remember when Jerry Garcia died and the news called it "natural causes" , even though he was only 53 . I remember wondering what classified as "natural " causes , could that be falling off a cliff , heart attack , cancer ?

I know it was Swine Flu because my girlfriend's sister works in a health clinic at a major university , so when she got sick they were afraid of a "major outbreak " because she could have infected people . They swabbed the inside our noses and I guess grew cultures , because it was a few days later they said it was Swine Flu . Looking back I bet they are rather embarassed as Swine Flu has proven to be so weak of a virus .

Probably a creation of the Military Industrial Complex. Scientists went to Europe and dug up graves of victims from the massive flus pandemic victims and the virus was still viable and they brought it back to their laboratories. Why?
