GAY SOCIAL WORKER CHARGED WITH SEX ATTACK ON YOUNG BOY

A former social worker was arrested on Sunday and charged with sexually molesting a 13-year-old boy.

Phillip T. Young, 44, of Buffalo, is charged with sexual assault, committing a criminal sexual act and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police said the suspect once served as a case worker for the boy's family when Young was employed at the Buffalo Urban League.

Officials at the Urban League confirm they hired Young in 2000 when they took over My Brother's Keeper, a group that provided similar services but closed. All of the organizations cases and employees were transferred to the Urban League.

But officials at the Urban League failed to run a background check on Young before hiring him. If they had, Young's 1995 conviction for sodomizing an 11-year-old boy would have been discovered.

But since no such check was done, the Level 2 sex offender was allowed to work with children.

"He slipped through the cracks," said Brenda McDuffie, president of the Urban League.

Young was fired in 2006, McDuffie said, after he violated policy by taking a young child to his home.

"At that time we did not do annual reviews. That was one of the new protocols we put in place," said McDuffie.

Now, all Urban League employees have their backgrounds checked at least once a year.

Young is being held in the Erie County Holding Center. He has a felony hearing scheduled in Buffalo City Court on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m.

(ctd)...Granted, the statistic may be inaccurate because young boys might be less likely to report abuse. Either way, yes, I have an issue with you identifying this man as a "gay social worker" because being gay was not his crime. His crime was raping a young boy. In fact, sexuality is more complicated than that. Most men who rape boys were raped themselves by men. He could be a disturbed man repeating a pattern of abuse and not necessarily gay at all.

And what of the men who get sent to prison, perfectly straight, but get butt raped by other men who would rather him be a woman and not a guy?

I don't understand what is required for someone to be gay, whether it's a choice, they were born that way, or from mental trauma. You can't just say that just because he raped a young boy that he is automatically deemed gay. He may be bisexual for all you know.

However, with that being said...I would like to point out that CPS will tell the judges and write all kinds of things in their reportt about how bad parents are but they can have homosexuals working for them? I am a gay social worker that works with kids and I can assure you that I never ever think let alone would do anything like this. I have the best interest of the child at all times and would appreciate a level of understanding here. Pedophiles are very different to gays. I hope you can understand... Alot of these kids are neglected and abandoned and basically noone gives a shit. So sometimes a gay person knows what it's like to be ostracized and has a level of empathy to take care of the aban
