  • Wow! That IO-360 gets you off the ground quick! Like the fact that it is lighter than the Franklin. Does not make much sense to add the ultra heavy O-470. Sure wish I still had my 108-3!

  • @TailwheelForrest - Thanks for the comment. After our rebuild, the empty weight was lighter even with the new engine. If I recall, the engine weight was about the same as the franklin. The C/S prop does add several pounds over OEM but I made up for that by removing insulation, metal wing covering etc. I would have preferred a dash 3, but I had the dash 2 and I knew the condition was good before we started the project.

  • Great video. That is one HEALTHY Stinson ya got there! Looks like it started before it cranked through one blade of the prop. How about some specs on it like cruise speed, fuel burn, gross weight(any increase from original?),etc. Any other mods on it in addition to the droop tips? I'm lookin for a nice original 108-3 Flying Station Wagon with the 165 horse Franklin. Flyin' Piper Colts and Tripacers now.

  • @PA22Flyer Had a PA16 before the Stinson! Yes start up is usually fairly quick, although hot start can require some additional cranking if I flood it. 25/25 (75%) will give me about 165 hp and we see about 115 kts on wheels and 100 kts on floats with fuel burn at 10 us gph. I did a complete rebuild when we put in the IO-360 and the final weight was slightly less then when we started. I did modernized the panel and removed the metal wing covering so that accounted for most of the weight.

  • Thanks very much. Hope to put another video together early this summer.... when the weather impoves

  • Great video Dave, nice scenery from the glacier.

  • Thank you. Can't take credit for the glacier though;-) We do live in a great part of the country.
