On August 26, 2010, nurses from the California Nurses Association, and thousands of other Californians, marched on the state capitol in Sacramento to honor the 90th Anniversary of the 19th amendment.

They also came to protest candidate Meg Whitman for dishonoring the values and votes of the suffrage movement. Marchers carried signs that read; "Women Vote for Women who Vote." Despite her recent bid for the California governorship, Meg Whitman has not voted for most of her adult life.

At the podium, CNA's Council of Presidents hailed suffrage values of care, compassion and community, and said that nurses hold those values in common with the suffragists.

Many of the early suffragists also worked as nurses. They supported progressive causes that focused on the health and welfare of families.
