Rescue is good, but the sad reality is that when there is a surplus in a market, the average price drops. Nicer horses become available for less money and these rescue horses become free. People who always wanted a horse, but have no money to care for them now have them in their backyards. We are seeing an increase in neglected equine cases, and the number of sick, hungry suffering animals will only increase without an outlet. The truth hurts.. but it is still the truth.

You have got to be kidding. Why are those the only 2 options?? Responsible horse owners seek medical treatment or have their horse humanely euthanized when one of the above conditions exist. Or just try feeding them, that does wonders for a starving horse. There are state laws protecting horses from this type of neglectful or abusive ownership and those are what need to be enforced consistently to get people to wake up and realize horses are a huge responsibility with certain needs.

cowgirl...i more than agree. i have rescued 5 horses -- but they all cant be saved. There are to many of them..they are all going to end up at sales, with no one to buy them. I think there needs to be a more humane way. Or, we could all stop breeding them! Al of horses are bred because someone thinks it would be a good idea. I do think that the whole thing is terrible...but there needs to be somewhere for them to go. You are going to see many more horses being abused and left to starve

ok, i might be the only one to say this but if you do the math we can't stop slaughter we need to make it humane. without it where are our surplus horses going to go? To people that are going to abuse them. There have already been cases of people turning their domesticated horses out into the forrest and they later died, i don't know about you but this is not what i want to happen.

Please, EVERYONE, take few moments to call your Congressional representative, and Senators. Urge them to get HR503,(in the Congress), and S311 (in the Senate), to the floor for a vote. Urge them to Co-Sponsor the bills and to press for a vote ASAP. Do this everyday, until this horror is ended.
