Looks like more of a description is needed here. This is obviously from Hugh Hefner's Playboy After Dark series. You can see him at the bottom left of the screen in the beginning. Lot's of great jazz came out of this series. It was THE place to be. Notice Tony Bennet @ 1:20. Count Basie at the piano and Sonny Payne at the drums. This was 1959 so I assume Eddie Jones was on bass and I also hear Freddie Greene strumming away on guitar.

She's amazing! Annie still sings every Tuesday night at the Metropolitan Room on West 22nd St. in NYC, so if you're in the City...

One word - incredible!
I have that famous photograph by the late Art Kane, with (almost) all of the Jazz greats up the stairs, in front of a Harlem brownstone. Poor (tired) Count Basie was tired of standing, so he sat down on the curb. A bunch of lil brown kids sat right down with him. - Oh if they only knew!
Art managed somehow to finally get everyone's attention at the same time - all except Dizzie Gillespie sticking his tongue out at a fellow musician. ^_^ I do love that picture.

perfected? This is the definitive vocal version. Joni did a lot of great things, but singing this song better than Annie is just laughable at best.

Playboy After Dark didn't come out for another ten years. This is from Count Basie's house.

Yep, it is; it's even Wardell's composition. Feel free to go to my blog (link in profile) for listening to the original from November 11, 1949.

One other factoid: I'm fairly certain this is a vocalese based on a solo by Count Basie's (by then deceased) tenor sax man, Wardell Gray
