How to add mixer channels in Record. Although a mixer channel is added automatically when you create a device (unless you are holding shift when you create a device), there are some devices, such as the Redrum, which have multiple outputs. Please note that for the Redrum to show in Record, you need to also have Reason 4 installed on your computer. There is a Record song template on my website to go with this tutorial. Download it from www.vst-patches.com/downloads The song file contains a Redrum with all of its outputs connected to individual mixer channels. There is no pattern recorded in the Redrum.

  • Love your tutorials VstPatches. But how do you record each mix channel on the sequencer??

  • @WestCoastFront Thanks! Do u want to have each Redum part on its own seq track? If so,Right Click (or CTRL+R Click on Mac)and select Copy pattern to track. Then press F8 for tool menu and select "Extract Notes to lanes" / Explode / Move. This gives you a note lane for each Redrum channel. If you then want to convert each sound/channel to an audio track, go to FILE / Bounce Mixer Channels.Tick the channels you want to bounce, and select Bounce to New Tracks in song+MUTE ORIGINAL CHANNELS. Cheers!

  • You could also create a redrum sub mix with a 14:2 mixer and run that into just one mixer channel. Its easier to manage in my opinion.

  • @ButterShark True, and if you don't need to use Record's better EQ to process individual drum sounds then you could do that. However there are times when you will need to EQ sounds on their own, using a better EQ, and Reasons 14:2 mixer only has basic EQ.

  • So can you show a video on setting up multipal bands with different inputs.. I gather once it is saved I could easily set up each band as they would be recorded live or studio.. thanks..

  • @coolmixes I would, but my audio interface is basically a 2-in 2 out (ie stereo) interface. If you use a multi-channel audio interface, all available inputs will show - eg Input Chanel 1, Input Channel 2, Input Channel 3 etc. Just assign the input of your interface to the mixer channel in record. Hope this helps. Sorry that I can't make a video to show this.
