Because it is infinitely more pleasant to figure out that you didn't arm your hybrid inflatable lifejacket correctly on a nice day when everything else is just fine. I'd set it up when I bought it, but looking at the trigger mechanism later, I realized that I'd left the arm outside the pin & quite possibly already in the "pulled" position - more of a user malfunction than a gear malfunction, I'm embarrassed to say. It was chilly enough that I decided to call it quits at this point, but next time I'm out I'll set it up properly, with the arm nestled inside the slot that it's supposed to rest in, and try it again.

Will also make a blog post out of what I did wrong, 'cause what's more fun than a post about screwing up?
