,,, Something that you get for free and take for granted, apparently. I noticed, further that you avoided (probably wisely) posting a link to the article itself. People should google "washington post poor pay up" and click the first link, then read the actual article. Honest people would have posted the link because they would want people to actually see what they're talking about, so it's totally understandable that you didn't post the link. It says virtually nothing that you say it says.

There must be something wrong with your printer, because the article doesn't mention Wal-mart at all, in fact the paragraph you quote says, "You don't have a car to get to a supermarket, much less to Costco or Trader Joe's, where the middle class goes to save money." Now I'm not defending Costco or Trader Joe's, but the fact that you have to lie to make your point. Similarly, it doesn't say anyone is "forced" to use caller id, it points out that many poor people get it for peace of mind..

@LisaBaby67 But nobody will go after them because we can't offend the non-English speakers. That wouldn't be PC. And cities like Detroit (where I used to live yrs. ago) *will not allow* Walmart to open up stores in the city. I don't know why. Maybe they feel it would take away from the atmosphere they've created with all the liquor stores and topless bars?

The convenience stores that thrive in poor areas really do rip people off. But instead of going after them for their shady practices, they'll just force us to give everybody a car. How are they shady? Go to Walmart sometime and watch them stock up their cart with nothing but $1.99 milk, which they'll then turn around and sell at their Qwik-E-Mart for $3.50 a gal. Or the toilet paper they buy in bulk, then sell the indiv. pkgs. (that say "not for individual resale") for $5.00 each.

You guys haven't got a clue. I was one of the people you are talking about, and I will never forget the struggles I had to endure, and put my kids thru to survive. I did not forget where I came from, and I hope others who have been there and struggled out of it remember those still left behind.

Smugness and ignorance- a bad combination.

You guys are goddamn idiots. I hope you become poor someday just so you will understand what it's like.
