A LAM é uma doença pulmonar rara que afeta quase que exclusivamente mulheres. É caracterizada pelo crescimento anormal de células musculares lisas nos pulmões. Com o passar do tempo essas células acabam por obstruir a passagem do ar causando diminuição na capacidade respiratória. Com a evoluçao da doença há necessidade do uso do oxigênio e, como último recurso, um transplante.

LAM is an incommon lung disease that affects almost exclusively women. It is characterized by an unusual type os smooth muscle cell that invades lung tissue. Over time, these cells form cysts and obstruct airways, blood vessels, and lymph channels. Delivery of oxygen to the body is progressively impaired, resulting in the need for oxygen, and as a last resort, lung transplantation.
