An online survey to gauge the thoughts of Scott County residents on their community, environment and economy drew more than 1,000 responses and is moving to its next stage.
The sustainability survey, which was posted on the Scott County website for two weeks, drew 1,007 responses that will be tallied by Bi-State Regional Commission staff ahead of focus group meetings that begin next week.
Focus group meetings, with invited community stakeholders, are scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Sept. 16.
"I know that the project team is very pleased with the number of responses and the participation," said Chris Gallin, chairwoman of the Scott County Board of Supervisors. "We are just really looking forward to these focus groups because the information we will have to present to the focus groups have that much more credibility because of the number we received."
The sustainability plan, expected to be completed by the end of the year, will be used to create strategies for energy use and efficiency, conservation and resource management and economic development.
County officials also expect the document to be useful to communities in the county in making grant proposals and creating economic development plans. It likely will set goals for the county over five, 10 and 15 years.
The study groups will help set the priorities, County Administrator Dee Bruemmer said.
"It will tell us what we should work on first or work on harder," she said.
