Ghostwriters don't write all the songs. "Tip Drill", for example, was written by the St. Lunatics. Ghostwriters are popular in dance pop, not hip hop or hard rock.
In any case, the artist still has the final say in what goes into his or her music and they are making these choices. For evidence one need only look at the more indie rap albums. CDs being sold out of the trunks of cars are usually worse then anything on MTV or BET. They make "Tip Drill" sound like "Ladies First".
@kissfan7 not so much. the industry has ghostwriters that write all the songs, the artist you see performing these songs have to pick from this writing pool. the artist are picked based on their camera appeal. they do not write their songs
I love this documentary. But to suggest that the media corporation owners have anywhere close to the amount of creative control over the images of black men (and women) in music videos that Griffin had in "The Birth of a Nation" is silly, to put it mildly. As sad as it is, the majority of the people with creative control over these videos are black. While one should look at the fact that most rap CDs are bought by whites, if they disapeared tommorow the situation wouldn't change that much.
