This video shows a block of end grain maple being engraved on a New Hermes pantograph, on its way to becoming a piece of wood type for letterpress printing.

  • 6:46 and not one second showing the other end of the Pantograph? I'm disappointed, I was hoping to see the other end of this thing...as in, what the master letter looked like

  • He does say end grain, so no grain direction. End grain allows you to hold finer detail than plankside.

  • I think that is end grain so there is no direction. Maybe I am wrong?

  • So what does one of those pantographs go for?

    Cool process. Which way does the grain go? Vertical?
