Legendary Engineer/Producer Andy Johns drops some mixing/recording/engineering knowledge. He even explains how he got the drum sound from Led Zeppelin's classic "When The Levee Breaks". This video was included with the fantastic Platinum Samples Andy Johns Classic Drums expansion for the BFD software sampler.

  • haha that's because he's smoked like a chimney since he was a teenager and he's about 60 or maybe a bit older. i mean, he lived with keith richards during exile on main street for God's sake! hahaha

  • For those who have so much ego to be stupid enough to publicly announce that they would not let one of the worlds best engineer/producers help them record a great drum sound, have proven why there are players who are true professionals and those who will never make a career out of what they do. Andy is a pro and would not suggest something that would not be appropriate to the style of music being recorded.

  • what a badass.

  • This guy is the boss

  • I just found out about this new band that Andy Johns just mixed/engineered and co-produced - SWITCHBLADE GLORY!!!

It is classic Andy tone - what a F'in album - best orginal hard rock I have heard in many years!!! This is a must get - I just downloaded on Itunes and haven't stopped listening to it :) It has that authentic hard rock sound you just don't hear anymore. GO ANDY!!!!!!!!

  • You gotta love Andy's character. He's engineered and/or produced the best rock records ever. Period. Yet he's so humble and wary of telling the viewer "this is the best way". Jack Joseph Puig could learn a thing or two from him.

  • Sup andy

  • When the Leeve Breaks, Stairway to Heaven, Black Dog, Tumbling Dice and Poundcake yeah this guy knows how to record drums!

  • Great bit here. Andy is clearly the man. Pro all the way.

  • Nice beard!!

  • Andy Johns on VH's FUCK & Live: RH, RN are exemplary! Sure Ted & Donn did some amazing stuff, mostly on Eruption & Fair Warning, but mostly I was unsatisfied with their work on anything besides VH I & FW.

The part I was unhappy about was Ed's claim that FUCK was almost too "Brown Sound." Really? What that meant to me was Mikey was finally given his proper due in the final mix! Just listen to the total lack of BASS on stand out tracks like Cabo Wabo as a perfect example to compare to FUCK!!
