When liquids of different densities are poured gently into a common container they will remain separated. Here dark corn syrup, liquid dish soap, water, vegetable oil, and rubbing alcohol are poured into a graduated cylinder.
This also happens the first demonstration video I have filmed with my new digital camera and I have also played with my ability to edit videos (my last camera's video format didn't allow for editing on my computer) and pouring segments have been sped up.

  • what can u do to prevent it to mix when shook???

  • @Anwar44444 Nothing that I know of because some of the liquids will dissolve in each other and then separation is impossible (or at the very least impractical within the column).

  • @Anwar44444 No because some of the liquids will dissolve in other liquids, at that point separation within the column is impossible (and it is impractical outside of it).

  • What is the point of it? I'm trying to find information on my freaking project and he didnt explain it well enough!

  • Fluids that do not dissolve in one another will sort/stack themselves according to their densities. If solid objects are placed into those fluids they will sink through levels they are more dense than and float upon fluids they are less dense than.

I know I don't explain it well in the video, but that is because for now my videos focus on the demonstration and my classroom lecture and discussion focuses on the why. This was also not filmed in front of a class, and so I explain less than normal.

  • Water look green to me

  • Once is it in the column I agree, a combination of a lighting effect and probably a little mixing with the orange soap.

  • as if wearing a lab coat makes me a scientist

  • this explains why fat people float in water, lol. They have more fat, and fat is less dense than water. dam fatsos.
