  • I like the idea of large districts with multi-members so at least I should get at least one representative from the party I vote for (or usually vote for).

  • Exactly. In many areas, it would also make for more "natural" constituency boundaries. The city I live in is arbitrarily divided into four constituencies. Under STV, it would be a single entity conciding with the local government entity. The same applies to many rural counties.

  • I can't really see what's so great about choosing your gaoler.

    You're still in gaol.

  • STV is a good system for NI because it allows people from different, mainly religious, backgrounds to be represented by someone that isn't completely unreasonale to them. However in most other places it's simply too complicated. In Scottish Local elections 10,000 sheets were spoiled because voters did not understand the system. Im a supporter of the Additional Member System as it keeps the constituency-representative links but also reduces the amount of disproportionality inherent in Fptp.

  • I agree with all of your points except public finance. I'd say it's appropriate to write off this inequity to FPTP. FPTP's principal flaw is, of course, it's distortion of public opinion. However, FPTP does favor the candidates who *appear* to be winning. In order to *appear* to be winning, one must spend vast sums of money. Getting rid of the two-party effect fixes it. STV isn't a horrible system, but Range Voting is probably better. Your geography and voter faitgue points were simply perfect.

  • Very deep concepts. I wish I knew more about UK politics. Anyway, thank you for your considered views. Great analysis as far as I can see.

  • Thanks... Good points... I will upload a follow-up video addressing your comments in the next few hours.
