@9w2xyz: I think what happened to Tanita was that she simply lacked the drive and ambition that other, less talented artists have. The quality of her material dropped off after her first two, outstanding, albums and I think she needed someone to push her, make her stretch herself. It's just her personality - she seems to be very laid back and not desperate for a "career". I hear she's making a comeback, so I look forward to seeing her soon.

@jmmbos I never fail to get a lump in my throat when I hear this song - that part you describe, and the way her voice seems to fall away and mumble "grow weary and back down, it's such an amazing sight to be found..."
I have a clip of her doing this and my other favourite TT song, Preyed Upon, on Irish television - stunning, emotional performances and among my most prized musical possessions.

It's the strings in this song , when she sings: "Light up this town for the last time.."
They go through some vains , you know

`*.¸.*..... about this song.... beautiful

@9w2xyz 'Spatiality'? I don't really hear raw emotion from her records, I'm sorry to say. All I hear is 'not Tracy Chapman' and 'not Suzanne Vega' - which is clearly what the record execs were expecting when they originally signed her . . .
I don't wish her any bad feelings, but just wasn't good enough to get enough fans to sustain a career.

What a great voice

At last --tracked this video down. Great to see it as me and my mate are actually in it!
We were up in Howarth for the weekend with the ladies when we were asked to be extras for the video. Even though the song is over 15 years old still a great track to listen to.

Super video - first time I've seen it all the way through - filmed in Haworth, West Yorkshire (home to the Brontes). I remember a feature in our local newspaper about Tanita visiting Haworth before the song was released - didn't manage to see her though.
Thanks for uploading the clip - beautiful.
How come she can always imbue so much spatiality in her songs....
even with out watching the videos... you can always feel the raw emotion. I cant even begin to describe her voice. People have asked me what I like about her... I dont even know how to vocalize it.
Rock on Tanita.....
