You have a point. I want to believe that the title was originally Cherie Lola. But as releases for the East African market was always an afterthought, it was titled Mombasa just to tap into East African market.Of course Vatta Mombasa ( rhythm guitarists nickname was Mombasa hence the chanting at the end)
@epapeace Yup! He or she has made my Sunday as well, 2 yrs later. I haven't forgotten a single word of these fabulous songs of my childhood. I'm in heaven right now.
@Darubini2 you serious know your stuff, all i know about this song is one of my fav song of the 70s, my brother had a record player and i used to sing these songs, even though i never understood lingala, love it
I have always known this song as Mombassa and not Cherie Lola. However, many bands of that era were in the habit of producing the same songs under different names. Lipua Lipua's 'Matoba' was also released as 'Bongisa Maloba.'
