  • @helleng100 Hiya Helle , you wont remember me as I was just a kid when your husband was riding for Cradley , but the memories I have as a kid going to Dudley Wood were amazing , My cousins fiancee was Wayne Garratt so there was a big family connection to Cradley Heath n the sport in general , Erik was a LEGEND on the track and in my eyes along with Hans and Tony R the best rider the sport has ever seen , He was such a smiley character too , I see a lot of Erik in Greg Hancocks racing this year!

  • I was there that night when he climbed back on the bike and it still is my most clear memories of speedway when i was a boy...Thanks for the memories Erik....

  • Thanks for posting, left a lump in my throat watching Eric overcome his horrible accident, a great Guy a great rider & part of the great Cradley team

  • Rehabilitation after the fatal accident ?? HOW THE HELL IS THAT POSSIBLE??

  • I am glad that Erik recovered as well as he did after that crash, his effort to do that is almost superhuman.

My sister who was in the same unit (Pinderfields ICU) as Erik at the same time (Oct 1989) did not recover so well and I saw her struggle so hard to even get where she did.

I also uderstand what a horrible time it is to be family and see your loved ones in such a state, with the wires and pipes and a non reacting person in coma in front of you, THAT takes almost superhuman strength too.

  • Erik is a champion in every way, what he accomplished on the track was huge, but the the way he fought back from near death was fenomenal

My god Helle, it is 32 years ago, how many people must you have met, in that time? For you to remember me, is a great honour, I am not worthy, lol.

I guess my memory is getting the better of me, he was walking unaided, because this was before his crash, of course he was riding in the meeting we were going to, and came fourth too.

How is he doing, great guy, as were all the speedway riders of that era, my god I met so many, but I bet not many of them remember me.

    Garry....

Hi garry .. For some reason I clearly remember meeting you at the services... Yes you had Morty badges on your jacket ;) But as we all know speedway is a "family" sport and I remember you and thinking at the time : what great caring people , speedway folks are :) ....

    All the best ..

    Helle Gundersen ( the wife ) ;)

  • that brought a tear to my eye. to see him back on a bike again at the end!...inspirational.
