@LinasItsMe the length doesn't really determine the thickness. I'd say start with at least 4 inches though. The thickness is determined on how big each section dreaded is. Maybe like a 1x1 inch square of hair in each section for 1 cm thick.

@NedTheDread for me its my work, its ok to have long hair, but it cant be in your eyes. so i have to some how grow my hair out long enough to be out of my eyes without having it be in my eyes whie its growing.

Dude, you and MattsWhatsUp have the nicest dreads I've ever seen. I want some so freakin bad, but my school is so uptight about hair. So I've been trying to figure out a way to grow it out and dread it. Anyways, nice dreads:D
